Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis is a form of focused attention and guided concentration. Because it bypasses the critical conscious mind, hypnosis allows access to the power and creativity of your subconscious mind that is more open to useful suggestions with a goal to make positive changes in your life.
It is effective in changing your limiting thoughts and beliefs, negative emotions, and unhealthy patterns of behaviour.
While in hypnosis, you are in a relaxed state but you are aware of
everything that is going on, you are not asleep, you are in control at
all times. Importantly you cannot be hypnotized if you don’t want to be.
You are a co-creator in the process, and it is only through active
participation and taking responsibility for making desired changes in
your life that you can fully benefit from our work together.
How does hypnosis work?
Hypnosis works on the subconscious part of the mind through the use of alpha brain waves that can be described as “alert relaxation”. The alpha state allows access to our creativity, intuition, and connection with our Higher Self, that part in all of us that works for our highest good.
The hypnotist facilitates the process, but it is only through your active participation that your desired changes can occur. A good hypnosis client is one who is motivated to make changes in their life, has a realistic and clear goal that they want to achieve for themselves within a defined timeframe, and who understands the need for their active participation in the process.
Hypnosis has been used for:
– Building self-esteem and self-confidence
– Clearing fears and phobias (examples: fear of public speaking, fear of flying, fear of heights)
– Smoking cessation
– Weight loss
– Changing limiting beliefs and thought patterns
– Healing toxic emotions
– Enhancing spiritual connection
Is hypnosis safe?
Absolutely. You are in complete control while in a state of alert relaxation. Hypnosis is a process of co-creation and in our work together, this means that we not only discuss your goals and timeframe to achieve them, we agree on the process beforehand.
It’s very important for you to feel safe with, and to trust the
hypnotist you are working with. You have the right to ask questions
about their education/training, experience, and approach. I offer a free
30-minute complimentary face-to-face meeting for precisely these
reasons.
Will you make me do something I don’t want to while in hypnosis?
Absolutely not. Firstly, as a regulated health professional, I am bound by ethical and professional practice standards of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. These standards include getting your informed consent – this means explaining to you why hypnosis will be helpful in your situation, and what will transpire during the hypnotic state. In fact, we will discuss the process before proceeding, and you have the right to provide or withdraw consent at any time.
Secondly, even while you are in a relaxed state during hypnosis, you are always in control and aware of what is going on. You can get yourself out of hypnosis at any time if you want.
Thirdly, you cannot be hypnotized if you don’t want to be. Hypnosis can’t happen if you are not relaxed and ready.
